‘You Are Not My Mother’ dives deep into the dark Irish folklore called Samhain, known more commonly as Halloween in the rest of the world. The film revolves around a young woman named Char who is forced to face her family’s dark secret.

Char’s mother Angela goes missing a week before Halloween, leaving her car behind. She returns the next evening as if nothing ever happened. However, Char and her grandmother Rita notice something is different about Angela after her return. It eventually becomes clear to Char, as Halloween arrives, that she is the only one who can save her mother .

Hazel Doupe from ‘Float Like a Butterfly’ (2018) plays the main character, Char. For her performance in ‘You Are Not My Mother’, she was nominated as Best Actress in a Lead Role - Film at the Irish Film and Television Awards.

Actress and writer Carolyn Bracken, known for ‘Dublin Murders’ (2019), plays Char’s deranged mother, Angela. Ingrid Craigie from ‘Blood’ (2018) takes the role of Char’s grandmother, Rita.
