‘White Bird: A Wonder Story’ is a companion piece of 2017 film ‘Wonder’, based on a graphic novel by the same author of ‘Auggie and Me’, R. J. Palacio.
The film delves into the story of Grandmère, the grandmother of Julian, the bully from the previous instalment, as her younger self is hidden away by her Jewish family in a Nazi-occupied French village during World War II. The story also involves Julien, a boy once shunned by her and her classmates who ultimately became her saviour and best friend.
Grandmère, or Sara, is portrayed by Oscar-winner Helen Mirren, with Arielle Glaser cast to play a younger version of Sara. Mirren is also joined by Orlando Schwerdt, Gillian Anderson (‘The X-Files’, ‘The Crown’), Bryce Gheisar (‘Wonder’, ‘The Astronauts’), and John Bubniak (‘Army of Thieves’, ‘Barry’).
These are Glaser and Schwerdt's first major roles, and the team is excited to showcase the young actress and actor talents in bringing "heart, emotion, and magnetism to their performances".
