The King's Daughter

After years of being pushed back due to various issues, Pierce Brosnan's ‘The King's Daughter’ will finally hit theatres next year.

‘The King's Daughter’ tells the story of King Louis XIV (Pierce Brosnan), who seeks immortality. He meets a mermaid and captures her to steal her life force. However, his plan gets disrupted when his illegitimate daughter, Marie-Josèphe (Kaya Scodelario), discovers the creature.

The film is based on the 1997 Nebula Award-winning ‘The Moon and The Sun’, originally written by Vonda N. McIntyre. Plans for a movie adaptation dates back to 1999, when producer Michael London pitched the story to Jim Henson Pictures. Due to the end of the joint venture between the company and Sony Pictures, the film was shelved until Walt Disney Pictures picked it up in 2002.

In August 2013, it was finally revealed that the film would be directed by Sean McNamara, with the screenplay written by Ronald Bass, Barry Berman, Laura Harrington, and James Schamus. Meanwhile, John Coda, Grant Kirkhope, and Joseph Metcalfe would work on the film's score.
