‘Morbius’ is Marvel’s latest adaptation of the antihero character Dr Morbius, a biogenetic scientist and the villain to several superheroes, including Spiderman, Ghost Rider, and Blade.
The story begins when a scientist named Dr Michael Morbius, who suffers from a rare blood disease, tries to create an alternative cure. Little does he know, the thing that supposedly saves him turns him into a vampiric creature.
Forced to consume fresh blood to stay alive, he begins to hunt criminals that he deems unworthy and harvest their blood while resenting his bloodlust and the fate that befalls him.
Jared Leto, who played Joker in DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’, steps into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the living vampire. Leto said in a podcast interview with Variety that this version of Morbius is quite different to a typical antihero flick.
“[Morbius is] a Jekyll and Hyde story that’s just big and fun, and sometimes is a little scary, which is, I think, different for that genre. And I’m excited about it. That should be a big, fun popcorn movie.”
