I Wanna Dance With Somebody

In the years since legendary singer Whitney Houston passed away, a handful of documentaries have been made about her, and now a narrative picture with the same title as one of her most famous songs, 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', is on its way to the theatres.

Houston grew up singing gospel music and briefly modelled as a teenager before becoming one of the most recognized and respected R&B and pop singers of the 1980s and 1990s. However, she struggled with drug addiction later in her career, which contributed to her premature death in 2012 at age 48.

The film's director is Kasi Lemmons, who was known for her previous works like 'Eve's Bayou' (1997) and 'Harriet' (2019). Anthony McCarten, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of 'The Theory of Everything' (2014) and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (2018), is hired to write the screenplay. Producer Clive Davis, who helped Houston reach the heights of fame, is also part of the team.

The British actress Naomi Ackie, known for her roles in 'Lady Macbeth' (2016) and 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' (2019), will be playing Whitney Houston. As this film is made with the approval of Houston's estate, everyone's favourite songs by the singer will be included in the film.
