‘Censor’ is a horror film written and directed by Prano Bailey-Bond, with co-writer Anthony Fletcher. Set in the “Video Nasty” controversy of ’80s Britain, this movie stars ‘The Virtues’ actress Niamh Algar, Michael Smiley, Erin Shanagher, and Vincent Franklin.
This movie focuses on Enid Baines (Niamh Algar), a dedicated film censor who spends her time in a dark room while censoring extreme movies. She takes pride in her work, guarding the audiences against the adverse effect of gore-filled decapitations and eye gouging. When Enid reviews a film from the archived ‘Don’t Go Into The Church’ by cult filmmaker Frederick North, Enid suddenly remembers her young sister, who went missing many years ago. She begins to wonder if the cult movie might be related to her past.
‘Censor’ is an intense, horror-packed movie with impressive psychology and shocking scenes. ‘Censor’ tries to imitate the eeriness of VHS cult horror movies in the ‘90s and it really shows in Bailey-Bond’s full-length directorial debut.
