Blue Bayou

Award-winning director Justin Chon’s ‘Blue Bayou’ tells the struggle of a multi-culture American family.

The film follows Antonio LeBlanc (Justin Chon), a Korean adoptee raised in small-town Louisiana. He is married to the love of his life, Kathy (Alicia Vikander), and becomes a step-dad to their beloved daughter Jessie.

Antonio wants to make his little family happy, but life is not as easy as he wants it to be. As he is struggling to make ends meet, Antonio must also deal with his past when his future in the country he calls home is threatened by the possibility of deportation.

Chon, popularly known for his role as Eric Yorkie in the ‘Twilight Saga’, is by no means a newcomer in the movie industry. The American-born actor directed, wrote and acted in several of his previous works, including ‘Gook’ and ‘Ms. Purple’, which also addressed issues of ethnicity and identity.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander joins him as one of the leading cast. She is known for her Oscar-winning role as Gerda Wegener in ‘The Danish Girl’.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Chon commented on why he chose to bring the issue of immigration to the table:
