A Boy Called Christmas

‘A Boy Called Christmas’ is a fantasy film adapted from Matt Haig's 2015 novel of the same name, which follows a young boy named Nikolas (Henry Lawfull).

In this retelling of the Father Christmas story, Nikolas embarks on a mission to locate his father, who is seeking a town of elves named Elfhelm. He is accompanied on his fantastic voyage by a reindeer called Blitzen and a pet mouse. Nikolas must walk across the snow and battle fabled monsters, including a giant troll, along the route.

‘A Boy Called Christmas’ is directed by Gil Kenan, and he also co-wrote the script with Ol Parker. Kenan's first film, ‘Monster House’ (2006), received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature in 2007. His most recent endeavour is co-writing a screenplay for ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ (2021) with Jason Reitman.

This film will be Lawfull's feature debut. He is most known for his part in the television miniseries adaptation of ‘Les Misérables’ (2018). Dame Maggie Smith, who plays Aunt Ruth in the film, has had a lengthy career on television and stage dating back to the mid-1950s. Among her many honours are two Academy Awards, a Tony Award, and four Primetime Emmy Awards.
